Story Boarding

In Humanities 9 today we continued to work on our children's books.  We completed the following:
1.) Instant Activity- come up with 10 questions that you would like to see on tomorrows chapter 9 quiz
2.) Story Board Work Time- please have your story board complete for next class

Important Reminder- we have a chapter 9 quiz tomorrow.  It will consist of 10 questions from the big ideas discussed in Chapter 9 Canada Moves West.

Lord Selkirk Land Grant

In Humanities 9 today we finished our Chapter 9 unit.  In class we covered the following topics:
1.) Review on HBC and NWC rivalry + their affect on First Nations people
2.) Read about the pacific coast and exploration around Vancouver and Vancouver Island
3.) Discussed the Lord Selkirk Land Grant and The Red River Rebellion (Battle of seven Oaks)

Tomorrow your Interior Explorer Maps are due.

Children's Book

Today in Humanities 9 we started a new Language Arts project.  The students will be creating a children's book on any Social Studies 9 topic that we have covered this year.  We will be working on this project for the next 4 weeks.  Students are required to get a small scrapbook from Walmart to help them organize their story.

In class we covered the following topics:
Planning for the story
1. Analyzing children's book activity
2. Storyboarding- planning out our stories

Tomorrow we will continue comparing and contrasting the HBC and NWC.

Chapter 9

Today in class we started a new unit called Canada Moves West-Chapter 9.  We covered the following in class.

1.)  Hierarchical Graphic Organizer- looked at the big ideas of the chapter
2.) Discussed the Hudson's Bay Company and the Northwest Company

Please bring a scrap book tomorrow to start your Canadian History Children's Book.

Public Speaking

Today everyone did a wonderful job of presenting.  We did the following in today's class.

Seven Years War

Today in Humanities we wrapped up our Chapter 8 unit.  We discussed the following topics:
1.) Planned a British attack on New France
2.) Discussed the deportation of the Acadians
3.) Discussed the events leading up to the Seven Years War.

Tomorrow we will start reviewing for our Chapter 8 unit test this Friday.

2.) Reviewed Cartier and the positive/negative factors of early contact between Europeans and First Nations groups.
3.) Samuel De Champlain- Port Royal, Quebec and his alliance with the Huron
