New SS Unit

In Humanities 9 today we started a new unit of study.  We will be exploring European arrival in North America Chapter 8.

In class we did the following:
1. Handed in our final essays and notes
2. Grammar quiz
3. Introduction to European Exploration

Please scan through chapter 8 of your textbook to start to become familar with some of the big concepts.

Wednesday

Today in Humanities we covered the following:
1. Reviewed comma splices
2. Discussed when to use a comma and when not to
3. Discussed transitions

Edited our essays- Essay 1C will be due on Friday

Tuesday April 24

In Humanities 9 today we covered the following:
1.) Reviewed sentence fragments
2.) Looked at run on sentences
3.) Edited our essays looking for fragments and run-on sentences

Essay 1 B is due tomorrow (good copy all changes corrected)
I will be also checking the Essay 1 A has editing marks
You will be given 5 marks for each

Your final essay 1 C will be due this Friday.

Monday April 23
In Humanities 9 we did the following:
1.)Silent Reading
2.)We discussed sentences fragments and main clauses.
3.)We looked for these errors in our essays.

Please continue to look for sentence fragments in your essay for tomorrows class.

2.) How to write a conclusion
3.) Work time

Wednesday Developing the Body of an Essay

Hello parents and students. In Humanities 9 today we covered the following topics:

1.) Silent Reading
2.) Reviewed how to develop a Thesis Statement and parts of an essay
3.) Discussed how to develop the body of our essay
4.) Wrote our first body paragraph

Tomorrow we will be finishing the body of our paragraph and we will be moving onto writing an introduction and a conclusion.

Hello parents and students. In Humanities today we continued to work on our essays.

In class we discussed the following topics.
1.) Read two student essays looking for the thesis statement, supporting paragraphs, transitions.
2.) Reviewed the format of an essay- introduction, body, conclusion
3.) Discussed the importance of auidence and style(Formal vs Informal)
4.) Discussed how to develop a thesis statement- remember the formula topic + opinion = Thesis Statement

A great class and a lot of learning. Tomorrow we will continue to build on our essay writing by researching our topics.

Welcome Back

Welcome back. I hope everyone had an enjoyable break and that you are all recharged for the last term of the year. I really look forward to ending the year with a bang. Over the next two weeks we will be working on essay writing and grammar. These are two very important skills that you will need to know for English 10.
